Sheila sent us pictures of the cute very hungry caterpillar party that she threw for her daugher Kailani’s first birthday. She invited the guests with apple shaped hungry catterpillar invitations calling all hungry caterpillars to crawl over and play. And when they did crawl over, she served them everything that the storybook hungry caterpillar ate. There were apples, oranges, plums, pears, strawberries, chocolate cake, ice cream cones, pickles, swiss cheese, salami served with butterfly crackers, lollipops, cherry pie {tarts}, sausage {hot dogs}, cupcakes, and watermelon. Along with rice and teriyaki chicken, and a green leaf {salad}. The table was decorated with signs stating what the very hungry caterpillar ate on each day of the week.

The guests played pin the caterpillar on the apple, catch the butterflies, and smashed a butterfly pinata. Shiela attached butterflies to white paper bags bearing each child’s name, to make cute favour bags. She decorated some empty baby food jars with hungry caterpillar stickers, and filled them with yummy ”caterpillar snacks” {trix cereal}.

The Giraffe Theme is popular for baby showers, but would also make a darling theme for a first birthday party. It’s a gender neutral theme with the predominant colours being orange & yellow. If you’re planning a Giraffe party, invite your guests with this invitation from Tiny Prints . Hang Sunset Orange poms poms, over the party table. Decorate with a coordinating birthday banner, which you can make yourself, or buy on Etsy. Make, or buy giraffe shaped cookies & decorate them with your theme colours. Decorate cupcakes with orange & yellow frosting & top them with these cute giraffe cupcake toppers from Etsy. Serve lemonade, & display in a pretty pitcher with lots of lemon slices. Create a mini candy bar around your theme colours. Prepare a fruit bowl / platter so that your little guests can munch on some healthy treats as well. Why not carve giraffe shaped sandwiches like this one from Funky Lunch, and give each guest a giraffe favour box to fill with take home candy? Gather a few rings, & a stuffed giraffe, & let your guests enjoy a game of giraffe ring toss.

Squiggle some spots on yellow giraffe shaped baloons & use these as party favours & / or,  make or buy little stuffed giraffes, like this Dwell Studio version, & attach giraffe thank you tags for guests to take home.
