My darling sister gave me the most beautiful paper doll congratulations card when she heard I was expecting my daughter, it’s among my most prized possessions. So when I came across the paper dolls pictured above on Martha Stewart’s site, I knew instantly how gorgeous these would be as birthday party invitations. Trust me, you want to make these for your little girl, (or boy). They are absolutely fabulous, & you can customise them however your want, using colourful paper, or even photocopied fabric!

You can download the template from Martha Stewart here.

And follow these instructions:

What You Need for 1 invitation:

  • 12 x 18 inch piece of construction paper / light weight card stock
  • paper doll template
  • patterned paper (you can use one pattern, or different, coordinating patterns) / photocopied fabric
  • scissors
  • glue stick

To make chain of paper dolls

  • Cut out your template
  • Make layered Accordion folds with the construction paper / lightweight card stock, each layer must be as wide as your template
  • Lay your template on the construction paper, making sure that the dotted lines are on the folds
  • Now cut out only the solid lines
  • You should now have a chain of paper dolls

To Make Clothing:

  • Cut off the legs, head & arms from your template
  • Use your modified template to cut out clothes for your paper dolls from patterned paper / photocopied fabric
  • Use your glue stick to affix clothing to the paper dolls

You can write in the party details on the inside of the paper dolls, or you can print out the details on contrasting paper, then cut to fit the inside of your paper dolls & paste.
